History Behind the Day

First launched by the American Anthropological Association in 2015 as “National Anthropology Day,” it was internationally rebranded in 2016. The fixed date—the third Thursday in February—was chosen to ensure global participation in workshops, school programs, and public outreach. 

How Can We Celebrate?

Host an anthropology-themed event—such as film screenings, cultural dialogues, or “unessay” student projects. Schools, museums, and anthropology clubs often organize workshops, community lectures, or activities with anthropologists interacting directly with audiences. 

World Anthropology Day reminds us that empathy, curiosity, and respect for cultural diversity are essential to building a more inclusive and connected global community.

To mark World Anthropology Day, Santhi School organizes engaging activities such as cultural storytelling, traditional costume displays, and a “World Cultures” quiz competition. Teachers at Santhi School encourage students to present models, charts, and creative projects that explore human evolution, lifestyles, and social values. This observance helps students understand the interconnectedness of communities and the significance of studying human behavior to promote peace, empathy, and global awareness. The event adds a rich layer of educational experience, fostering both curiosity and unity among young learners.
